Orange Media publications are official student-produced mediums of news and information published by the Journalism students of Olentangy Orange High School. The publications have been established as a designated public forum for student journalists to inform, educate and entertain readers as well as for the discussion of issues of concern to their audience. They  will not be reviewed or restrained by school officials, adults or sources prior to publication.

The content of the publications is determined by and reflects only the views of the student staff and not school officials or the school itself. They will not publish any material, determined by the staff or adviser, that is libelous, obscene or disruptive to the school day.

The advisers are Kari Phillips and Brian Nicola. Readers may respond to the publications through Letters to the Editor. Letters may be mailed, e-mailed to thecourierstaff@gmail.com or dropped off to room 2223. The staff asks that submissions be 300 words or less and contain the author’s name and signature. Editors reserve the right to edit or withhold publication of letters.

The publications strive to uphold the Canons of Professional Journalism, which includes accuracy, impartiality, etc. Therefore, major errors will be corrected in the next issue. Distinction will be marked between news and opinion stories.

Varsity Football vs. Pickerington North: November 8th game recap

Fans filled the stands on Friday night to watch the Pioneers, ranked third, during the first round of playoffs for the Division 1, Region 3. The Pioneers hosted the Pickerington North Panthers, ranked sixth in the region. 

 

The game starts off with a successful field goal attempt by the Pioneers in the first six minutes. With five minutes left in the first quarter, the Pioneers couldn’t get to the end line and decide to go for another field goal, which was successful. At the end of the first quarter, the Pioneers had the lead of 6-0.

 

Less than two minutes into the second quarter, the Pioneers decided to go for another field goal at the 39 yard line and were successful, bringing the score up to 9-0. With a little over 5 minutes left in the first half, the Panthers make their first touchdown, with a successful extra point.

 

Senior Spencer Hawkins passes the ball to Junior Caden Konczack, who scores a touchdown for the Pioneers. The extra point was successful. This brought the score up to 16-7 with 4:14 left in the first half. Senior Sam Wyne then scores another touchdown for the Pioneers, with a successful extra point. Second quarter ends with the Pioneers in the lead 23-7.

 

Less than two minutes into the third quarter, the Panthers make a successful pass leading to a touchdown, the extra point was also successful. With less than 2 minutes left in the quarter, the Panthers make a successful field goal. At the end of the third quarter, the Pioneers were still in the lead 23-17.

 

Hopes are high among the Pioneer fans as many hope to see the first victory in a playoff game in the schools history. With 6:49 seconds left in the game, the Pioneers scored another touchdown, but their attempt at a 2 point conversion is no good. Senior Jake Vanchieri scored another touchdown for the Pioneers with 2:40 left in the quarter. The extra point was successful. 

 

This finishes off the game and the Pioneers win 36-17, advancing to the second round of playoffs.
