NBHS 411

The high school has had a Business Club for many years, and now it’s being taken to a whole new level. This year, the club started offering National Business Honors Society to junior and senior students.

“I felt NBHS would be a great addition to the high school for the students and another thing to add to college resumes to improve them,” Business Club Adviser Teresa Gellenbeck said.

To be inducted into NBHS, the students must obtain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA overall and a 3.5 GPA within previously taken business courses although a student has to be either enrolled in or have taken three business classes total. Students must also attend a certain amount of Business Club meetings that vary yearly depending on the necessity of the meetings. Applicants also have to have at least three service hours. “The time and work National Business Honors Society requires is much more manageable than National Honors Society,” Business club member Sam Saldriagga said.

There are officer positions such as president, vice president, Marketing manager and more that are available for all students in the club to apply for. The club meetings consist of a student-run T-shirt business in which club members make T-shirts for school clubs and events and planning fundraisers that the club can host.

“This year we did Toys For Tots and Red Cross Disaster Relief so far for our two fundraisers. I think it’s important for students and potential future entrepreneurs to understand the importance of giving back and social responsibility,” Gellenbeck said.

All grades are welcome to join Business Club to get a feel for what NBHS will be like junior and senior years. Students get the choice of joining multiple committees like Marketing, Graphic Designers, Sales Consultants, Fundraisers and more to get a hands-on experience for what certain officer positions or jobs may consist of.
