Fresh. Healthy. Honest. Zest Juice Co. was founded three years ago in Dec. 2014 and their slogan illustrates what co-owners Natalie and Jordan Helman wanted the company to offer: unparalleled healthy options to the Columbus community. Zest offers a wide variety of healthy options to choose from ranging from juices and smoothie bowls to avocado toast.
“Health and well-being are very important to the Helmans and they wanted to offer approachable juice, smoothie and food options to the community,” marketing director at Zest Juice Co. Shanisty Ireland said.
With four locations to choose from in Columbus, I decided to go to the Easton store on a Monday after school. Inside Zest, the overall atmosphere was simple and rustic. There was an array of wooden tables to choose from, and the natural lighting was perfect to take an instagrammable picture of whatever customers order.
Looking at the menu, there are a wide variety of juices, smoothies, smoothie bowls and power shots to choose from. They also offer “edibles” which are different kinds wraps and toasts in case customers would like a snack to go with their drink. The juices, smoothies and smoothie bowls are around $9 to $10 and the power shots and edibles range from $4 to $7, which is on the pricier side.
“Our smoothie bowls are always popular, regardless of the season. Our Happy Almond smoothie and PB Split are really popular smoothie options. Our toasts are popular, as well, with our avocado toast being our best seller. As for juice, Vitamin Cbus and our variety Cashew Milks are very popular,” Ireland said.
I decided to order a smoothie bowl since it is one of their most popular items on the menu. With a bowl, you get to choose three different toppings from a list that includes: almond butter, banana, bee pollen, blueberry cacao nibs, chia seeds, coconut flakes, granola, hemp hearts, honey, peanut butter and strawberries. I ordered the dragon fruit bowl with banana, strawberry and granola as my toppings.
“Our menu items and ingredients change with the season. We promise to offer the healthiest and freshest ingredients. Therefore, some of those ingredients change with the season,” Ireland said.
While the ingredients of my bowl blended together, the worker freshly sliced the strawberries and banana to be placed on top of the bowl behind the glass barrier. The smoothie bowl’s presentation was perfect, and I loved the way they arranged the fruit and granola. The smoothie was bright magenta, and the bowl was large, making it worth the $10. Surprisingly, the bowl was very filling and appetizing.
Overall, I would give Zest a 4 out of 5 stars. I loved the healthy aesthetic and welcoming, bright environment. However, the only downfall was the cost. I wish the price was not as high so it would be more affordable to younger clients. However, I believe that the quality of ingredients is worth paying more for, and I will definitely go back to get a fresh, healthy and honest smoothie.
