This year winter formal was on February 4, 2017. It was a little different than the ones in the past. For the first 30 minutes of the dance there was swing dance instructors there to teach students how to swing dance as if it were in the 1920s.
Then at 7:30 the regular school dance began. Many upper classmen were excited for the dance because it was either their second to last or last winter formal in high school.
“It was bitter sweet going to my last winter formal. My friends and I had a great time though and I’m glad I went,” senior Mallory Brooks said.
Preparing for the dance with your friends is way to enjoy not only the night but also the whole day with them. Since winter formal isn’t as big of a deal as homecoming or prom groups were able to go to restaurants less fancy.
“My favorite part was taking pictures and going to California Pizza Kitchen with my friends before the dance,” senior Mary Damko said.
Dancing and having fun with friends is what many said is their favorite part about any school dance. The music at winter formal was a mix between pop music and 1920s music but it focused more on the pop music.
“My favorite part of the dance was hanging out with my friends and listening to music,” Freshman Ashley Paglia said.
The dance ended earlier then dances in previous years’ dances. Usually dances last from 8 pm to 11 pm but this year’s winter formal was only from 7:30 pm to 10:30.
